Admiralty,

9 September 1899.

With reference to my letter of the 4th August 1899, respecting the Crown Rent on Marine Lots Nos. 20 and 21, (late Sharp's Buildings) at Hong Kong, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that the Treasury is of opinion that the Admiralty should pay the Crown Rent in question, commuted at 25 years purchase for $27,859.

My Lords will therefore cause the amount to be credited to the Colonial Office, and will be glad to be informed whether the Secretary of State would prefer payment being made in London or Hong Kong.

Request Admiralty to pay the amount at the Treasury rate of Exchange to the P.A; & so inform Agents; and inform your Lordship that they have dealt with ref: to 18616 & the Despatch referred to therein.
